Original idea of 3 Italian municipalities: sell houses from symbolic amount of 1 euro.
Who would ever think of buying a property for only 1 euro? But…
The valid initiative started to combat the abandonment by the population and give a perspective to areas in need.
It is Salemi (Trapani), Gangi (Palermo) and Carrega Ligure (Alessandria).
For Carrega Ligure instead, they tried to find a remedy to the depopulation of the country, which now has only 98 people (from more than 3 thousand who had) divided into 13 fractions.
To join the initiative, there are no requirements of residence, anyone can access it and the Municipality acts as an intermediary.
In exchange for the ownership of the property they must provide a number of guarantees:
- pay all legal fees for registration, volture and stacking
- within one year must have submitted a draft restructuring
- obtaining the authorizations you have two months to start work
- is required to conclude a surety policy
Given the potential of this initiative would be desirable that other municipalities would promote similar proposals to improve the city and reframe the old buildings and structures in decay.
